John Maxwell began his work as a collage artist in the mid-1970’s while living in Marin County,California.  He studied photography and general art at the San Francisco Art Institute and was an Art Director for Arts & Leisure Publications in San Francisco. His major influence as an artist was becoming friends with Kelley and Mouse, two of the original five psychedelic artists of the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom days. Seeing their personal collage work hanging in their homes led John to begin experimenting in collage. He has had a number of successful solo shows in southern California and continues to explore collage as a fine art, always looking to create the "perfect piece".  His most recent works are digitally scanned collages enlarged and printed on canvas with further collage and painting techniques applied.

John Maxwell retired at the end of 2013 from the Motion Picture Industry having been an on-set dresser on feature films based out of Hollywood.
